Recognition Award Recipients
The Palmyra-Eagle Area School District Board of Education proudly launched a recognition program at the December board meeting. The Board of Education Recognition Award distinguishes those employees, volunteers, businesses or service groups that provide exemplary service to benefit a school, the district or the community in the Palmyra-Eagle area.
Two awardees received Recognition Awards to launch the program; Palmyra Elementary teacher Chelli Taylor and Boy Scout Ian Dunn.
Taylor was nominated by two of her colleagues, Karla Kostein and Amy Muth, for her ongoing commitment to inspiring students in the arts. Each year she writes a play with her students as a class project. Last year her play involved 40 students and included a lesson about bullying. In addition, she was very involved in performances at the high school level, this year she helped direct “Seussical the Musical”. Taylor was also recognized for her community service including an annual camp out where students construct tenements made of cardboard, and then spend the night in them. The event is designed to raise awareness about homelessness. This year, her students raised more than $800 for Family Promise of Jefferson County, and organization that helps local people in need.
