The Palmyra-Eagle Area School District operates under a student services model. This model allows us to coordinate our efforts in order to make the best use of our existing resources throughout the school district. Programs that fall under the purview of student services include Special Education, Guidance, Gifted and Talented, At-Risk, Health, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Abuse Program, and School Psychological services. A group of these professionals meet on a weekly basis to share information and collaborate so that the various needs of our students are addressed in an efficient and thorough manner.
Philosophy
The Palmyra-Eagle Area School District's philosophy of special education and pupil services is that of education based on the premise that all children benefit socially, physically, emotionally, creatively, and academically from parents, teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators who share the responsibility of meeting the students' needs within a common learning environment. This department stresses the need to work as a team so that we can address the needs of all children. In special education, Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) is determined on an individual basis, with full inclusion in the regular education classroom being the starting place. Removal from the regular education setting must be justified for each student based on his/her individual needs.
