Public Comment at Board Meetings
Per School Board Policy 167.3 (Public Comments at Board Meeting). To ensure Board meetings are conducted in an orderly and productive manner, public comments, nomatter the topic, are subject to these regulations.
The Board requests that participants limit their comment to 3-minutes in duration and no participant may speak more than once on the same topic. A participant who continues past 3-minutes will be asked to leave the podium.
Conduct which is disruptive to the meeting or interferes with the ability of others to observe the meeting; conduct that is abusive, obscene, or irrelevant, including the use of vulgarities or profanities; or conduct which interferes with the ability of the Board to conduct business, is prohibited. Speakers who violate this rule may be prohibited from further comment.
Speakers may not comment on confidential personnel disputes, share grievances involving individual school employees that do not implicate issues of public concern, or share individual student disciplinary matters, as there are other channels for addressing these matters as set forth in Board policy.
Board members will not respond to public comments unless the topic was identified on the publicly posted agenda. Because non-agenda items are not publicly posted in advance, no action will be taken on public comment regarding non-agenda items.
In the event an individual causes disruption to the Board meeting and the Board can no longer continue to conduct business, the Board President may declare a recess or adjourn the meeting. In addition, if such conduct is a threat to the health or safety of another individual at the meeting, law enforcement may be contacted to restore order and safety.
Signage, banners, or other material which impedes any person's view of the proceedings, including a Board member's view, shall be relocated so as not to obstruct views.
